Getting caught up

Hello.

Been quite busy since the boat shows, so I thought I'd take a moment to give some updates.

First, Kale is doing a tremendous job at Contemporary Fiberglass.     Lots and lots of new Safe Step custom extended swim platform orders.   He is a hard worker and a tremendous human being.

Contemporary Marine Flooring is on pace to DOUBLE last years' awesome volume!    The Ship Shape TV commercial is paying off, but, mostly the feedback is that people are happy with our products and services and we are getting a huge amount of referrals.   And, Ship Shape TV came to the shop several weeks ago to do a segment on us.   That will air in a couple of weeks and should give us even more exposure.

We have done some really cool jobs lately and you can see them in detail on our website-   www.contemporarymarine.com

We would like to welcome Canvas Supply, located in Ballard, WA to the SeaDek family.   They are new SeaDek certified installers and will be our key go-to people when we need help on the west side. Please call Brian at Canvas Supply and let him know that we sent you.   They're an awesome company with a Great reputation.

I want to give my point of view on why you should choose Contemporary Marine Flooring when considering SeaDek for your marine non-skid needs.   In particular, why choose SeaDek, and us, when there are less expensive options available.

So, there are so many new apps available for you to find the lowest priced "whatever".    Groupon comes to mind, but they're everywhere it seems.    And yes, there are times, I believe when it is appropriate to find the lowest price available.   But there are also times when I just don't want to compromise on quality....or, times when I will choose a more expensive alternative because of the accompanying customer service and feeling of content or trust.

Let's take pizza for example.   Sure, we could find a Groupon to get a low priced pizza.   However, we will not eat ANY pizza other than Embers in Hauser Lake, ID.    Because...they're pizza is fantastic, the service is consistently great and we're huge fans of the owners- Chris and Jane.

SeaDek is not the lest expensive non-skid PE/EVA foam product on the market...in fact, I'm pretty sure it is the most expensive.    However, they use the highest quality products available...so it's going to perform better, longer.   They innovate so you will always have access to the latest and greatest designs and options.   They stand behind their products so if something goes wrong, you will be taken care of.

Contemporary Marine Flooring has a mission to be the best certified SeaDek fabricator....PERIOD.    That means, we want to produce the best quality kits and service.   We are not the least expensive SeaDek source.    You can buy SeaDek from SeaDek corporate located in Rockledge, FL for less.   However, the lead times will be considerably longer.    And, if there is an issue, they will not be able to address it as quickly or with the same amount of consideration.    It is simply logistics.

We are proud to be in this position.   We are grateful to be a part of the SeaDek family.  Our goal is not to be the biggest fabricator.....just the best.

Give us a chance and you won't regret it.

Cheers,

Nice matters

Scott

First Ship Shape TV commercial

A sneak preview of our first #shipshapetv commercial that we shot yesterday.     It turned out to be a lot of fun and Jeanne was #Awesome!    It took about 1.5 hours to complete.   When we went it into the studio, it has just started to snow.  When we came out, there was 5" on the ground!    wow.

We used the @seadek floor that I thought of, designed and fabricated and we loved how it turned out. It really sends the message that we represent #SeaDek and the we serve the entire #pacificnorthwest, #britishcolumbia and #california.   Note the detail in the clock tower, Space Needle and the islands.

It is the same floor that we will use for the upcoming boat shows in #spokane, #seattle and #montana.

Watch for #contemporarymarineflooring in 2018.....quietly making noise.

Cheers, Scott and Jeanne

Big plans for 2018

Good morning.

I wanted to take the time to announce our plans for 2018.   We're Very excited and there's a LOT to tell.

Firstly, we have decided to sign a contract with Ship Shape TV for 2018.   We've done a lot of research and concluded that we believe this will significantly impact our volume and exposure tremendously.  We're going to be busy!

SeaDek has been associated with #ShipShape TV for decades.    They still advertise nationally.    We felt that there may be a segment of boaters here in the Pacific Northwest that may be familiar with Seadek from the commercials, seeing it on OEM boats or just seeing it on their neighbors' boat at the Marina...but for whatever reason, are apprehensive about pulling the trigger.

We are going to focus on getting information out there about how the process works to calm any fears that folks might have about having to template their own boat...or install the #SeaDek themselves.    We want to spread the word that we now have trained professionals everywhere in the PacificNorthwest and British Columbia to do that for you.

Ship Shape TV is on #Rootsports here in the northwest.    Check it out and watch for us in 2018.

Next, we (Contemporary Marine Flooring) decided to donate a boat to our non-profit organization-  Golf Teaches Integrity.   The boat is an 18' Century Open Bow that is in rough shape.    We are going to find local vendors that will assist us in making the boat like new.    It will then be raffled off at the 2019 Spokane National Boat Show.   All proceeds will go to #golfteachesintegrity.    For more information about the non-profit or the raffle, visit golfteachesintegrity.com.

Also....SeaDek recently announced a new Captains' Fish Series-   an array of onshore and offshore fish that they used special tooling and cutting techniques to really make some artistic pieces.    The problem was that they forgot about us west coasters!.   So, we hired a local artist and designed our own series.  We came up with designs for a Coho salmon, a Chinook salmon and a Dungeness crab.  We then perfected the geometries and tool paths until we were extremely happy with the outcomes.   I'll show you a quick preview, but will take some high quality photos once formally announced.

We sent the additions to SeaDek and asked them if they would consider adding them to their official series and they have agreed.   So we should get some good exposure and we're proud of that whole project.   Nice work #contemporarymarineflooring team!   And thanks for all of your efforts.   And special thanks to Geoff Chinn, the local artist who assisted in the design / drawings.

We are selling these pieces of #genuineseadek artwork both on our website:   contemporary marine.com and we'll sell them at our booths at the Seattle, Spokane and Montana Boat shows.   They will be available for $25.00 each or two for $40.00 if you are interested in owning a certified genuineseadek piece of art or maybe just want to contribute to a worthy non-profit!

Finally, I want to notify everyone that reads our blogs that SeaDek has announced a price increase effective end of March, 2019.     So, if you are considering getting your boat #seadeked, now is the time to order.

Cheers to everyone.    Have a Great Holiday season.   And please check out Ship Shape TV!

social media marketing

So I have to admit, I don't really get this social media marketing gig. I understand that the younger folks use social media to interact, so to help spread the word about what you do, you have to have a presence on social media. The concept is that word of mouth will spread, it goes viral and you get rich, right? Well, the closest I've come is when we did one job on C Dock at Two Rivers Marina, they loved it and told their neighbors about us who started ordering @seadek for their own boats and it took off like a wildfire. It was fun, and rewarding.....and had Nothing to do with social media!

I guess I go back to what my dad taught me..."you get paid for what you do". To me that means customer first. Do a great job and do what you say you're going to do. The rest falls into place.

I do research on how to improve my business using social research, and what I get is....there's not much data to support that all of the hours you spend posting content really pays off, but again, you have to do it. What I found this morning is the hottest thing is Reposting old content....just to keep it out there and in front of your followers. See @meetedgar for more details on how this works, but for $50 a month, they will take your library of content and keep posting it over and over and over... They claim that it will double your followers. To me, it just seems that it would annoy the people who do follow #contemporarymarineflooring. We already live in a world where spam is king, so many people make $ just putting a new face on something somebody else invented / innovated and fewer and fewer people understand somebody has to actually make stuff. :(

The one tip I did think was a great idea from this morning was to post a "tip of the week". I'm going to try to start doing this, and it may or may not have anything to with SeaDek. It will have to do with customer first.

I will continue to post of FB and on Instagram and encourage you to follow us and #contemporaryfiberglass. I also blog and I try to include some personal stuff to keep it in front of my customers that we have some really interesting stuff that we do when we're not making #seadek. It's true, We work to live, not live to work.

We have the best customers ever and we're grateful. Have a Great rest of your weekend.
